At The Shutter Studio, we have a variety of features that you can add to your plantation shutters before purchasing. The beauty of our trade is that we can design your Shutter Blinds to fit you and your home. Whether you’re looking for blackout options, the types of hinges we sell or how to keep the natural light coming in with our louvre choices, then keep reading on!
Window Blackout Solutions:

Depending on your personal preference for window coverings, we have a range of products that can help you achieve that blackout look. Customers choose blackout options for that better night’s sleep, extra privacy or if they are night workers and need that dark room for during the day. We have two main options for this type of finish including; blackout shutters and blackout blinds.
Blackout Shutters are created with either a tension blind or corded blind installed into the frame of the shutter itself, creating that extra layer between the window and frame itself. This is probably the best way to get that complete blackout darkness as you have two thick layers of wood and blind materials to cover the light coming through.

We also offer rebated louvres, which are designed to help seal out light leaks that would normally escape through the regular louvres. The final option
Blackout roller blinds are the other option if you wanted something more simplistic. Our other style of Roman Blinds can also come with a Blackout lining to give the same effect. Room darkening blinds are helpful for those customers who want a simple window covering but also something effective to help them get a private nights sleep without the morning sun or street lights interrupting.
Shutter Louvre Sizes
Another Shutter feature we let you customise before purchase is the shutter louvres. We can create your louvres in 1 of 3 sizes: 64mm, 76mm or 89mm. During your free home consultation, our team can discuss with you further on the pros and cons of each louvre size. To give you a basic outline of what some of the benefits are to the various size louvres – the bigger the louvre the more light you can let in, but the smaller the louvre, the more privacy you can have.
It is simply down to what you would prefer out of your shutters – a great (and most popular) choice is our 76mm as it’s the perfect balance of light and privacy. Our experts can also help you discuss what would fit best depending on what style shutter you choose also.
Hidden Hinges
All shutters come with their standard hinges to help customers operate them seamlessly at home. The hidden hinges fit between the shutter panel and framework so that they cannot be seen and leave the window covering looking sleek and clean. The standard colour of the hinges installed is white but a lot of customers choose to upgrade to a concealed hinge as this helps hide them even better and leaves them looking flawless.
What is also great, is that the hidden hinges can work on any style of shutter: from cafe-style to tier-on-tier, full-height to the solid panel. Therefore, whatever style you are thinking of purchasing, you have that option as one of your shutter features.
Shutter Finishes

Of course, we can’t forget about everyone’s favourite part about custom shutters, the colours. We have a range of paints and stains that your products will be finished with. The Polyurethane paint finish is far superior to any acrylic alternative – giving you the best quality which will last and last. The care and detail that goes into designing. and creating these beautiful products is incredible and to leave your shutters looking perfect for a long time, a UV treatment is added onto the surface to prevent discolouration over time.
There’s a lot to think about before purchasing our beautiful products and we hope this breakdown of some of the features will help you make important decisions before speaking to our experts. Our team is happy to help you make these decisions so you get the most out of your shutters and blinds.
