The Shutter Studio recently had the pleasure of helping customers, Mr and Mrs E, find a number of shading solutions for the doors, windows and skylights in their newly renovated garden room. The couple, whose property is located in Purley, had used The Shutter Studio before and chose to use its services again because of “the overall excellent service experienced” previously.

The brief Mr and Mrs E love their conservatory but wanted to enjoy the space fully throughout the year. They therefore required shading that worked with their interior, whilst providing the benefits they needed. Conservatories or garden rooms often have an abundance of glass, which means when left unshaded, it can be difficult to keep the space cool in the summer and insulated in the winter. Choosing the right window shades helps to overcome this problem and create a comfortable space all year round.

Installing pleated conservatory blinds

After a thorough consultation with our Croydon team, the couple chose pleated blinds for the windows as, “they gave good thermal insulation while looking neat, smart and attractive when open or closed”.

Perfect fit pleated blinds were chosen for the couple’s uPVC doors and windows, as they clip directly into the window frame without the need for drilling. This meant there would be no damage to the uPVC and a clean and seamless look could be achieved. The pleated, honeycomb design provides great insulating properties, keeping the room cool in the hot months and warm on cold days.

A smart solution for conservatory skylights For the conservatory’s skylights, the homeowners chose motorised skylight blinds “for ease of use”. These electric blinds also mean Mr and Mrs E can avoid using “either a pole or steps to reach them”.

These blinds are not only convenient for Mr and Mrs E but match the same stylish pleated design as the window blinds. With just the touch of a button, the couple can adjust the skylight blinds to control the amount of sunlight entering the room. This feature is particularly useful for hard-to-reach windows, making it easy to manage the room’s temperature and light levels throughout the day.

A year-round sanctuary

Since the installation, Mr and Mrs E have noticed a significant improvement in how comfortable their garden room is. The new blinds “give solar insulation, privacy, look great and are unobtrusive”, which is exactly what they hoped to achieve.

The conservatory will now be at the optimum temperature during the summer months, thanks to the effective heat control provided by the pleated blinds, and in winter, the blinds will help turn the space into a cosy retreat where Mr and Mrs E can relax.
