The Shutter Studio had the pleasure of working with leading London property developer Paul Simon Homes on a major new build development in Enfield. This involved providing window shades for over 300 apartments that would complement the modern décor and appeal to all types of tenants. The Shutter Studio worked closely with Paul Simon Homes to find the best solution to match their client’s brief.

Understanding the project

The team at Paul Simon Homes contacted our Croydon team to discuss their requirements. They wanted blinds that offered enhanced privacy and improved light control, as well as helping to reduce energy costs for its new tenants. The blinds also needed to look stylish and be suitable for all residents, including children.

Choosing roller blinds for new build apartments

Neutral grey roller blinds were a perfect renter-friendly choice

Our sales director, Matt, and blind expert, Ollie, who headed the project, recommended manual roller blinds for all the apartments in the development. All the blinds needed to be customised to fit each window and be made to suit Paul Simon Homes’ timeline and budget.

Blackout manual roller blinds were chosen, designed and manufactured by our partner Yewdale. These blinds provided a renter-friendly option, which our client wanted. The blinds are both easy to maintain and are designed with child-friendly clips for the pull cords.

A light grey colour was chosen for the fabric to provide a simple, yet contemporary feel that works with the interiors of each apartment, whilst silver was used for the pull cords to provide a stylish finish to the blinds.

The blackout option was also a no-brainer for the developers, as it allows tenants to have complete darkness in their rooms. The thicker fabric also helps to provide more insultation to retain heat.

Installing blinds in over 300 apartments

To ensure successful installation, our team initially conducted multiple site visits to take all the measurements for every window in the apartment block. This was imperative to ensure each blind was made to fit perfectly.

When it came to installation, The Shutter Studio had to be mindful of other contractors working on site to ensure all the blinds were fitted on time. Our surveyors and fitting team worked efficiently around the contractors, adjusting their schedule when necessary.

Once each floor was complete, Matt and Ollie checked every blind before progressing with installations on the next floor.

The installation took place over a six-month period due to ongoing renovations during the build. However, it took only 10 days for The Shutter Studio team to install the blinds in over 300 apartments.

The end result

Paul Simon Homes were thrilled with the finished result and particularly valued working with The Shutter Studio, as a family-run, customer-focused business. The roller blinds not only met the functional needs required, but also added a sleek, modern touch to the apartments. We were also very pleased that Paul Simon Homes approached us a year later to work on another project, which was a testament to the work we did for them on this project.
