Our wooden shutters bring warmth and character to sash windows, creating a sophisticated look that enhances any room. At The Shutter Studio, some of our favourite shutter styles for sash windows are cafe style and tier on tier. This is because they can be designed to fit to the natural divides of the windows. Cafe shutters are known as “the sash window shutter” for this reason and leave a beautiful balance of light and privacy in any room they are in. With various finishes and stains available, you can easily match your shutters to your home’s aesthetic.
Solid shutters for sash windows

Together, the window is complete with character and a stylish finish which is perfect for those in older properties or with a classy taste in interior styling. Take a look at some of our FAQs for sash window shutters
Do sash window shutters improve energy efficiency?
Yes, sash window shutters can help improve energy efficiency by adding an extra layer of insulation. For the best thermal efficiency, we recommend full height shutters, potentially with an integrated blackout blind to see the most improvement in energy efficiency. Adding shutters to windows helps to reduce heat loss in winter and helps keep your rooms cooler in summer.
Can I combine sash window shutters with curtains or blinds?
Yes, the best part of shutters is that they are not free-hanging but are fitted to your window. Shutters are great space-savers and can be combined with decorative curtains or blinds for a classy interior finish. Roman blinds are a perfect example of blinds that look great when layered on sash windows. We recommend pairing them with cafe shutters for a stylish finish. Combining shutters with other shades allows you to further enhance insulation and light control while adding a beautiful focal point to your interior design.
What are the benefits of shutters for sash windows?
Adding shutters to sash windows can offer several benefits. Whether you choose half or full height shutters, they can both help improve privacy and light control, often with the perfect balance of both. With adding privacy, they also improve the security of your home, which can be an important aspect for many homeowners. There are not many other window dressings that can provide as many benefits as window shutters, which is why we recommend them so highly.
