Tips on how to update your rental home

This week we are looking at the best renter-friendly window shades. Our team visits rental homes and answers customer questions about the best property options.

Let’s start at the beginning:

Before doing any decorating on a rented property, you need to make sure what is on your agreement with your landlord.

Some agreements may say you can’t change the structure of the house. Other agreements may require you to fill in any holes you create in the walls before moving out, this could be from curtain or blind brackets or even pictures on the walls! Find some more rental-friendly decor ideas here!

A lot of these agreements also require you to leave the property in the same condition as when you first arrived. Some landlords also love the idea of tenants changing blinds within their properties, but often ask for them to be left behind whenever you decide to move home – so make sure to get all the details first!

As the property is not owned by the occupant living in it, Landlords have to set their own standards to make sure they can make it easier for multiple occupants to move into and out of the property without having to spend too much money on damages or structural work, unless it was necessary.

“Can you put blinds up on a rental property?”

The simple answer is Yes, of course! In some cases, a blind or shade of sorts can be a legal requirement to what landlords should provide in order for their tenants to have a form of privacy on move-in day, just in case they don’t have their own straight away. There are a few options when it comes to finding the best blinds for rented homes, and we have some perfect choices with our huge range at The Shutter Studio.

No-drill shades

There is nothing more perfect for rented homes than no-drill window blinds as we mentioned earlier about drill holes, they will be so simple to remove if you decide to eventually change them or even move from the property. With these shades, there will be no fuss or mess when it comes to installation and removal.

So, how do you fit a blind without a drill? Our Perfectfit blinds are blinds that fit into window frames. They are simply installed into frames which are easily clipped into your PVC doors or windows. This requires no drilling as the frame is simply placed onto 4 brackets that are placed onto the plastic of the PVC window.

The blind itself is often fitted within the frame before being placed into the window to make it easier for installation. With styles such as Venetians, you may also have your control rod installed but other than that, the fitting is simple and easy!

Tru-fit is slightly different as the blinds run from a bottom and top track instead of a full 4-sided frame but the installation process is just as simple and quick, with no mess or fuss!

We have a variety of styles that can be designed with Perfect or Tru-fit including Rollers, Venetians and Pleated! Our team can talk you through the various options and designs that perfectly suit your style.

Roller blinds

If you are not looking to spend too much on shades for your rented home then Roller Blinds are a great idea for those looking for the cheapest blinds on the market. Our range is designed to suit a range of interiors and budgets. We have already helped to supply and fit a range of Rollers to a variety of rented properties, including apartment buildings to help new renters get started and landlords help create private spaces for their tenants.

As we mentioned, we have a variety of roller styles, including the perfect fit but also the standard free-hanging styles that are all made bespoke to your window and door areas. If you are looking for a sheer covering or blackout, our team can help you design the perfect shade for your interior.

Venetians

Venetian Blinds are another great choice for rental homes. We have 3 materials in our range, including Wood, Faux Wood and Aluminium slats.

Faux/Plastic Blinds, as well as Aluminium, are both great for rental spaces as they are often much cheaper to replace if damaged by children or pets plus they are very easy to keep clean and can be installed in any room of the home!

Venetians are a classic style but are still one of the top-selling blinds, plus they are a great shutter alternative and offer a lot of the same aesthetic and practical benefits.
