How to Prepare your home for Autumn 2022

It doesn’t seem right talking about autumn when we’re only in the middle of summer here in the UK but it’s actually a very popular subject at this time of year. If you are looking for a “beginners guide to home decorations in autumn” then keep on reading!

Just as we have to prepare our homes for the hotter months, we also have to do the same for the slightly colder ones. This is because the weather changes, we want to spend more time indoors out of the rain and enjoy decorating our interiors for a different time of year.

How we sum up Autumn in 3 points:

Earth-Toned fabric blinds

When we think about the autumn season, the few things that come to mind are:

  • Earthy Tones – Red, Browns, Oranges and Yellows are all the hype when it comes to adding decor to your home and choosing those autumn outfits to brace yourself for the change of the weather. These colours represent the colours of the “earth” and what we see during these months including the changes in leaves on trees. According to our colour therapy research, these tones help create a warm and inviting feeling and so adding these to your interior, can create a relaxing atmosphere for this time of year. Continue reading to discover how we can help add some warm tones to your interior.
  • Pumpkins and all things Halloween – Autumn wouldn’t be the same without the spooky day that is Halloween. Although it is more popular in the US, it is now more celebrated in the UK, with homeowners decorating the inside and outside of their homes starting as early as the end of August/early September with all of the autumn and spooky decor you can think of.
  • Autumn weather – Even with global warming taking effect very seriously around the world, the UK is still expected to have wet and colder seasons, which mainly start in autumn. With temperatures dropping and energy costs rising, it’s easy for homeowners to get lost in their energy bills and that’s why we are here to help. Further, in this week’s post, we will discuss how to insulate your home, using our products.

How we can help you make preparations

Add some wood-stained shutters to insulate your home and add a warm finish

Whether it’s home decor ideas you need to improve for autumn or general tips on how to prepare your interior for the colder season, we are here to help.

Insulate your home

– With rising gas and electricity UK bills taking over the news, we want to help use our products to save you money, even if only a little. On estimate, wooden shutters can prevent heat loss by around 50% compared to curtains, blinds or no window dressings at all. The use of shutters during the winter means that your home could be insulated much better and your interior will stay much warmer, meaning less use of your heating constantly throughout the day.

Incorporate Warm tones

As we mentioned earlier in the blog post, earth tones are very popular at this time of year. Homeowners are attracted to warm colours, whether this is in their home decor, wall paint or window dressing. At The Shutter Studio, we have a range of blind styles, fabrics and designs that can add an instant change to your home. From a range of colourful Roller, Roman and Vertical blinds to wood-stained Venetians and interior shutters, you can create a welcoming autumn space instantly with a choice of one of our window shades.

Cleaning

We know it’s important to get a spring clean completed before summer, but it’s just as vital to clean your space before winter too, especially your windows and their dressings. Saving water has been a hot topic throughout the summer, with hosepipe bans being enforced during the drought we have been experiencing.

To help, we advise using a small bowl of soapy water to wipe down your windows before using any form of cleaning products, which can then be recycled onto your gardens! This not only helps wash away the summer road dust but also prevents wasting water too.

If you have chosen to dress your windows with one of our blind or shutter styles, we recommend avoiding cleaning products for use on our products and when cleaning your windows, being wary of these affecting your window dressings. Harsh chemicals can damage the finish of shutters and wooden blinds, causing paint defects and even warping. A microfibre cloth on the slats and frames should be just enough for dusting, using a baby wipe for any stubborn marks.

Grab some Autumnal window decor

Now you’ve got some tips on how to adapt your interior for the upcoming fall season, we would love to help get you started with a new set of window dressings to bring your interior to life and create a cosy atmosphere you’ll love this autumn.
