Earlier this year The Shutter Studio was approached by Studio Pilates in West Malling to help with their renovation project. The reformer Pilates studio was located in a charming oast house which had a clean and minimalist interior. They therefore wanted a window treatment that would suit both the internal environment and character of the exterior. The solution? We installed white shutters to achieve the finish they desired.
Studio Pilates is an international Pilates chain and a relative newcomer to the UK, having launched in 2023. Its West Malling location was its third studio and first destination in Kent. So, when the owner, Shirley, found The Shutter Studio from conducting a local search on Google they got in touch with our team. We were more than thrilled to help.
Shirley already had shutters in her own home so knew they would provide a stylish finish to the studio, as well as provide privacy and light control that was needed during classes.
The perfect match
Our white Paulownia+ shutters in the studio
With guidance from our team, Shirley opted for super white shutters in Paulownia +, a fusion of a lightweight hardwood material with a poly UPVC finish. This extra layer provides a durable finish which is ideal for the studio to protect against wear and tear over time. An easy tilt system was also chosen for its sleek appearance.
Before the shutters were made, our team surveyed the studio taking measurements for each of the ten windows. These were located throughout the premises, including the entrance hallway, waiting room, office and the main attraction – the studio.
Once ready, our team went back to Studio Pilates to add the finishing touches to the space. The shutters took just less than a day to be installed on one of the hottest days of the year. Whilst it wasn’t very comfortable for our fitters, it was the perfect time to get the shutters installed to help keep the building cool.

The combination of the shutters discreet easy tilt system and bright white shade blended seamlessly with the studio’s white walls and immaculate décor. The shutters also contrasted beautifully with the dark hardwood floors and black reformers. The overall environment not only looked stylish but also calming, providing a welcoming space that would attract members, and in which they would enjoy working out.
