Patio Awnings: The Ultimate Guide:
Patio awnings are a great way to add value to your home and create a comfortable outdoor living space. We have recently added these to our collection to help homeowners get ready for the warmer months and also improve their garden spaces all year round. They can provide shade from the sun, protection from the rain, and insulation from the cold. In this blog post, we will discuss everything you need to know about patio awnings, including the different types of awnings available, how to choose the right awning for your patio, and how to install and maintain your awning.
The main benefits of Patio Awnings
- UV Protection – Not only do they keep yourself and your family safe from the sun but they also prevent your furniture from fading over time, helping save money from replacing them every summer.
- Anti-Glare & Energy Saving – Awnings can actually help you save energy in the summer months, reducing the glare and sunshine coming into your home, keeping your home cooler, and reducing the amount of energy you are using on air conditioning systems and indoor fans.
- Shelter to extend your home – As well as providing extra privacy to your home, from neighbouring gardens, Awnings can give you the opportunity to spend time in your garden even on gloomy, rainy days.
Types of Patio Awnings:
We offer three different types of Retractable Awnings, each with its own style and benefits to your home. They are so easy to use and can be retracted when not in use.
These include two motorised options and one manual, suited to your individual style and budget. Take a look at our options below and see what fits your home best:
- Tortola: is our first motorised design and a popular choice for residential use due to its sleek cylindrical shape and sturdy design. It features folding arms with twin springs and double stainless steel sheathed cables to keep the fabric taut at all times. The full cassette casing protects the fabric and mechanism when the awning is not in use, and concealed brackets add to its attractive appearance.
- Cuba: The second of our motorised range, offers a modern rectangular design that seamlessly integrates into the building facade and hides away when not in use, leaving your home looking tidy and sleek. It features heavy-duty folding arms with quadruple stainless steel cables and twin springs for optimal fabric tension. The electric patio awnings are suitable for even the most demanding applications and even have the option of LED lighting can also be added to the underside of the cassette. This is very popular for businesses that like to add a stylish finish to their garden area, or for homes that need a bit of luxury lighting for social evenings in the summer!
- Anguilla: The only manual design within our range is the Anguilla retractable awning, which is our budget-friendly model but is similar to the Tortola model in terms of features. The slim cassette casing discreetly conceals the awning when not in use and sturdy double spring-loaded arms are tensioned via twin stainless steel sheathed cables for optimal fabric tension whether part or fully extended. If you have a smaller garden or patio area then we definitely recommend this design over some of our others, as it is much more discreet when extended or retracted.

How to Choose the Right Awning style:
When choosing a patio awning, it is important to consider the following factors:
- The size of your patio
- The style of your home
- Your budget
The size of your patio will determine the size of the awning you need, as we mentioned, some of our shades are designed to perfectly fit smaller gardens and our team can discuss the ideal range for the garden size you have.
Your individual style can make a huge difference to the choice of Awning you have. We also have a huge range of fabric styles, from solid colour to patterned designs, to really make them unique to your home or business. Think of your awnings as any other piece of furniture or window dressing, you want them to fit into your existing style and colour scheme so they won’t need replacing often.
Your budget will also determine the type of awning you choose and this is why we have made sure to include a variety of styles and a budget-friendly option, making sure every customer has the option if they want it. Our 0% Finance option is also available for customers who want to split up their payments into a finance scheme which can be discussed with our sales team before purchase.
How to Maintain:
When it comes to our products, we always advise our customers on how to maintain their products after installation and this doesn’t stop with our new Awnings. We want you to keep your patio awnings looking as good as new, and therefore it’s important to clean them regularly. As they are waterproof materials to repent rainfall, you can clean your awning with a damp cloth and mild soap.
The Awnings are finished with a protective coating to help maintain the fabric, so only a slightly diluted soap should be mixed into water for cleaning anything off the fabric. As soon as you notice any bird’s mess or tree sap on the fabric, try and clean this as soon as possible to prevent further damage to the coating, and then let the material dry fully before tucking the awning away.
You should also inspect your awning regularly for signs of wear and tear. If you notice any damage, you should repair it immediately to prevent further damage.
