When searching online on how to clean blinds there is plenty of information available, however, some advice, if followed, could prove a risky move as you could damage the finish of your blinds. For instance, soaking blinds in your bath or using fabric cleaners are just some examples which should be avoided. In this blog we have put together a breakdown of the different types of blinds and how to maintain them to ensure their longevity, so they hang beautifully.
How to clean Venetian blinds

Venetian blinds are simple to maintain with a simple cloth or duster
Wooden blinds such as Venetian blinds need to be treated very similarly to wooden shutters. Dust them regularly as you would with shutter slats using a microfiber cloth to remove the unwanted dust that makes your blinds look dirty. You can also spot-clean them with a slightly damp cloth or baby wipes to remove fingerprints or marks.
It is also worth noting that wooden blinds have a protective coating to prevent them from being sun-bleached, so avoid using soaps, chemicals and even excess water as this may damage the coating.
How to clean faux wood blinds
Faux wood blinds in contrast to wooden blinds are slightly different as they have been designed to withstand warping and damage from moisture. Whilst they can be cleaned regularly with a damp cloth make sure you avoid any soaps or abrasive cleaning products that could affect the condition of your blinds.
How to clean Easycare fabric blinds
Easycare blinds are often used in kitchens and bathrooms due to their waterproof quality. They have a shiny coating which makes them easy to wipe and maintain. Use a damp cloth to remove fingerprints and other marks, and dust frequently to keep them looking sparkling clean.
When using any moisture on your blinds let them dry fully before retracting the blind to prevent them from staying damp and causing odours.
For other fabric blinds, we recommend dusting and only use a damp cloth when absolutely necessary. Never use any fabric cleaners as this can cause spotting on coloured fabrics.
How to clean pleated blinds
Although pleated and skylight blinds are some of the most popular and elegant shading choices, they are also the most difficult to keep clean.
A vacuum cleaner may become your best friend when it comes to these shades. Pleated blinds can be tricky to dust by hand due to their honeycomb design so use a soft, small attachment to reach into smaller gaps where dust may get trapped.
This is the same with skylight blinds. Due to insects and dust getting trapped between your window and the blind, we recommend, if possible and safe to do so, cleaning and vacuuming your skylights every few weeks to prevent build-up.
Take care of pull cords
Many manual blinds are also designed with pull cords which can either be fabric, plastic or stainless steel. Due to child safety, many of these are now fixed at the wall. Handle these with care by keeping them clean and look out for any signs of wear and tear.
