What exactly are shutters?
Plantation shutters, otherwise known as shutter blinds and wooden shutters, originally hail from the south of America. Today, they are a popular option around the world thanks to their durability, security, style, energy efficiency and ability to add value to the property.
The versatility of shutters means that there are options available to suit every type of property and interior style. From Victorian, Georgian, and Edwardian homes which often suit bay window shutters through to modern new build properties, where our contemporary shutter blinds create the ideal finish.
What materials are available?
The Shutter Studio offer five potential shutter blind materials, which are carefully selected to suit every property style and budget.
- Monterey Pine – Sourced from New Zealand, this style of pine has been used for many years in flooring and furniture production. It is a great choice for shutters thanks to its light yet durable finish which will add a touch of elegance.
- Poplar – This fast-growing wood features a smooth timber with a lightweight finish that is perfect for shutters. If you plan on painting shutters, this is a great choice as the grain is not as even as our basswood option.
- White Ash – If you are looking for premium hardwood shutters, white ash will provide a unique finish thanks to its deep grain effect. This is a popular choice with interior designers and architects alike, so is regularly used in both domestic and commercial properties.
- Basswood – This is an economical material choice that is known for its tight grain, durability and smooth finish when painted or stained. The wood we use is hand-selected by our forestry team, so you can be sure it is of the highest quality.
- Waterproof – Our waterproof range of shutters are ideal for rooms with a water source, such as kitchens and bathrooms. These shutters are completely resistant to water, so you can be sure they will stand the test of time.
